How to bet on NASCAR
In the past decade or so, NASCAR has gone from been just a cult sport to a mainstream one, and is currently in a fierce competition against the NHL for the 4th major sport in America. Such popularity has also transcended into the gambling industry, where wagers on NASCAR continues to increase in numbers on a yearly basis, and one of the main reasons for such acceptance amongst bettors is how simple is to bet on it.

How a schoolboy experiment gave birth to today’s rigid inflatables
Life is full of hard luck stories but some of the worst relate to people who have held a fortune in their hands and let it slip through their fingers. Take the little known story of the Rigid – hulled Inflatable Boat. It seems they have been around for ever and yet the ubiquitous craft was only ” invented ” in the 1960s and the patent was sold for a mere £1.

The African cultural settings and buildings of the homesteads as well as the plantation farms that you pass through make the cycling experience more interesting and memorable. White Water Rafting; has become high on many people’s list of things to do on their Uganda safaris. White water rafting provides an incredible rush, as well as a unique perspective from which to view unspoiled scenery and rugged nature. Located in Jinja most remote locations and untouched by bustling modernity. Jet Boating; Jet boating is an adventure sport that’s gaining momentum all over the world and there’s nothing as truly exhilarating as the sight of the water turning everywhere so fast. If this sounds like something you’d like to do, make sure you do it in Uganda, take a skim around the river Nile in a jet boat and experience what it’s like to glide effortlessly above the water. Kayaking; Uganda is slowly emerging as one of the best kayaking destinations in Africa with an abundance of fast-moving, bubbly, undulating water. West Virginia Whitewater River Rafting Adventure
by admin on May.15, 2011, under Articles

White Water Rafting History
White water rafting is an exhilarating sport which became popular in the 1970′s and became widely known as a form of adventurous recreation in the decades to follow. Canoeing became a popular recreation in the earlier years which was adopted from Native American Indians who used canoes and early types of kayaks extensively for transportation, fishing and other necessities of daily life. This form of transportation was not limited to North America, but has been utilized by natives all over the world throughout history. Although canoes, kayaks and rafts have been used in various practical ways for hundreds of years, it is likely that none would have imagined the adrenalized form of recreation that is popular today.
This form of extreme rafting is significantly different from canoeing or common river rafting, which involves gentle and relaxed excursions down peaceful streams or rivers. White water is a term derived from roaring rapids which have a characteristic white color from the air bubbles trapped under water which moves at a steady and consistent speed. Typically white water rapids are formed when the water from a river originates in a high elevation then quickly descends to a lower elevation. This causes the water to churn and agitate as it crashes into stony river beds and rock covered banks.
Where most seeking relaxation and the serene sights and sounds of a gentle flowing river when taking a canoe trip; white water rafting requires that an individual be prepared both mentally and physically for an extremely challenging physical adventure. Most who endeavor to embark on a white water journey will seek a professional guide who provides instruction before and during the trip down the river. Utilizing a professional guide and participating with a group in a white water trip does reduce the risk of danger. However, this does not eliminate the fact that white water rafting can be dangerous if one is not prepared for the raging waters.
Water Rapids Classes
Several classes of rapids exist throughout many diverse rivers and locations. The most popular white waters are located in mountainous states and originate in higher elevations. It is advisable that beginners to this extreme form of recreation study and plan which grade or class of rapid they are willing to attempt prior to their first white water trip.
Consider the below list of white water classes and their characteristics
(especially when planning your first white water rafting trip)
Grade/Class – Experience Level – Characteristics
1 – [Skill: Beginner Basic] Smaller rough rapids, require some subtle maneuvers.
2 - [Skill: Basic Paddling] Rougher waters, could involve rocks, does require ability to move around obstacles.
3 - [Skill: Some Experience] small sized rolling waves and some white waters, slight dangers but not significant. More experienced maneuvers.
4 - [Skill: Experienced White water] Considerable Whitewater, possible rocks, medium size waves, higher drops, quick harder moves.
5 - [Skill: Advanced Experience] Fast White water, bigger waves, significant rocks, strong flowing, hazardous drops, precision maneuvers.
6 - [Skill: Extremely Lucky] Highly dangerous serious white water, massive powerful waves, considerable chance of death or injury.
White Water Raft Types
Canoes
One of the least used types of flotation methods for white water is the canoe. Although used at times for lower class river waters, canoes are not designed for impact against sharp rocks and jagged edges. Wood crafted canoes can be very expensive and significant damage can be sustained against vessels of such craftsmanship. Fiberglass and plastic synthetic material canoes though more flexible and forgiving upon impact may still suffer breach in faster more powerful waters.
Kayaks
Fast and maneuverable kayaks are the boat of choice among professional rafters who have little to no fear of raging water. Designed for usually no more than one or two occupants, a kayak provides the ability to turn quickly and sharply in fast moving waters. This smaller vessels though quick and agile they provide little impact protection and are less forgiving when a mistake is made. Kayaks can withstand considerable impacts since the weight is much less than a canoe and they are made with synthetic material that is pliable and rigid.
Rafts
Inflatable rafts are certainly the most used vessel of choice for navigating dangerous white waters. The reason for this is likely the ability of inflatable rafts to absorb considerable impacts when fast moving waters force the boat into jagged rock lined river banks. Though these boats are much more difficult to maneuver, they can carry several occupants who routinely work together to guide the vessel through the raging waters. Inflatable rafts designed for whitewater are rugged and durable and can be quite expensive. Larger sized rafts are commonly used by whitewater river rafting guides who bravely host group tours down various class river rapids.
West Virginia Whitewater River Rafting
Popular white water rafting destinations exist all over the world. Nearly a world away New Zealand is one location that is highly prized for beautiful mountain scenery, fast rushing waters and voluminous mountain rivers. The western United States offers many white water river excursions to thrill seeking tourists from Idaho to the Colorado river and the famous Grand Canyon. However, these destinations are often too far for many who live on the eastern coast of the US, and many will not consider white water rafting simply because of the necessity to travel so far for a white water vacation.
Hidden in the eastern Allegheny mountain state of West Virginia are some of the best whitewater rapids offered anywhere in the world. West Virginia is known for the frequent flooding and powerful raging waters that can cause devastation to little towns and villages along smaller streams and rivers. West Virginia is filled with many high elevation mountain tops and ridges which disperse water during the heavy volume rainfalls this region receives each year. The heaviest rainfalls occur in spring and late fall prior to the change to the winter season. Since all water must flow downhill, West Virginia has many locations where the high mountains naturally drop in a steep grade and subsequently the water flows rapidly to streams, creeks and rivers below. This creates many conducive environments for fast moving white water rapids, especially during the rainy seasons of the mountain state.
Two river of notable mention located in the heart of West Virginia are the New River and the Gauley River. Both of these rivers offer some of the most dynamic white water excursions found anywhere. While the New River can provide lower class beginner tours, the Gauley is for more advanced serious whitewater thrill seekers. The Gauley with names such as Heaven’s gate and Pure Screaming Hell rapids certainly should give an idea of what to expect. The New River is a little more forgiving while offering class 2 through class 5 rapids and a much longer scenic path through the mountains of West Virginia. The New River also has a unique characteristic of flowing northward as is attributed to the elevation in which it begins and the lower altitude in which it ends.
Trinidad and Tobago, Islands of Adventure
by admin on May.05, 2011, under Articles

Trinidad and Tobago, two islands set in the Caribbean Sea. The name Caribbean conjures up images of blue seas and white sand beaches set against green hills. It brings to mind images of lying on the beach sipping pina coladas or rum and coca-cola. For the holiday traveler Tobago meets those expectations. For the outdoor enthusiast however, Trinidad and Tobago can be islands of outdoor recreation adventure with hiking trails and hidden waterfalls, bird and turtle watching, cycling through verdant countryside or kayaking past wildlife filled forests.
Trinidad and Tobago has a range of hiking opportunities with many of the hikes leading to waterfalls. Rincon waterfall in the Rincon valley on the north coast of Trinidad is a 250-foot vertical drop. The hike begins in the valley amidst small farms, fording several crystal clear streams and then winds uphill, culminating with a steep descent to the base of the waterfall. The 32 kilometer trail from Blanchissuese to Matelot on Trinidad’s north coast is considered a jewel. Along the hike one alternates from unspoiled rainforest to untouched beaches. Starting from Blanchissuese you encounter Paria Bay after two to three hours (depending on the hiker’s level of fitness). A short trail from the beach leads to Paria waterfall where there is a deep clear pool below the falls surrounded by heliconia, fringed lilies, and philodendron. If you choose to continue the hike after Paria Bay, the trail rambles over a succession of small ridges, crossing several small streams, until you next encounter Gran Tacarib, which is a 1.2 kilometer crescent shaped beach. From Gran Tacarib the trail continues to the Madamas river and then Madamas Beach. Both Madamas Beach and Gran Tacarib are nesting sites for Leatherback turtles, during the nesting season of March to September. After Madamas it is a continuation of the up and down hiking and crossing small streams and then the Petite Riviere river. The trail continues through abandoned estate lands with cocoa, coffee, tonka bean, nutmeg and papaya (pawpaw) until you arrive at the Matelot River and the village of Matelot.
For those who want to lie on the beach but also engage in some outdoor activity there are several less strenous hikes. Argyle waterfall on the outskirts of Roxborough in Tobago is an easy hike along the Argyle River to a three level waterfall. The hike to the Rio Seco waterfall on Trinidad’s north-east coast goes through semi-cultivated land and then through stately mora forests to a small waterfall with a refreshing emerald pool, ideal for swimming.
Both Trinidad and Tobago abound with birds and at almost every turn an avian spectacle can be observed. Trinidad and Tobago has some of the most diverse bird species to be found in one location with over 460. This variety in species can perhaps be attributed to the fact that the islands lie close to South America so migration is easier, resulting in unusually diverse fauna. Asa Wright Nature Center, is Trinidad and Tobago’s premier birding location and it has been widely recognized as one of the most successful eco-tourism stories in the world. The listing of birds that can be seen at this center is too long for this article but has been identified in the vicinity of 159. Some of these birds include; Purple Honeycreeper, Green Honeycreeper, Crested Oropendola, Silver-beaked Tanager, White-necked Jacobin hummingbirds, Bananaquit, Red-legged Honeycreeper, White-chested Emerald hummingbird, Cocoa Thrush, Chestnut Woodpecker, Great Antshrike. This Nature Center is located at a height of approximately 1,200 feet in the hills of the Northern Range, seven miles from the town of Arima. It is reached by a single lane road that winds through verdant countryside dotted by small villages and isolated houses. There are numerous trails throughout the property and very knowledgeable guides.
Grafton Wildlife Sanctuary, Tobago, is a former cocoa and coconut estate that was destroyed by Hurricane Flora in 1963 and as a result was converted into a wildlife sanctuary. It is approx. 200 acres in size and is covered in secondary forest. There are three main forest trails. As you enter, the first trail on the right leads downhill and is relatively short. The second trail on the left also gradually leads downhill and then eventually climbs uphill. The main trail, which is directly facing the entrance, leads uphill and winds past several abandoned estate buildings and stables. There are benches along the main trail and at some points they provide panoramic views. There are at least three smaller trails that branch off from the main uphill trail but these are not always maintained. The three main forest trails are maintained. It is possible to spend an enjoyable hour or an intense four hours. The entire sanctuary abounds with birds of varied species.
Trinidad and Tobago are islands in the Caribbean Sea so there are myriad opportunities for kayaking. However for those who do not want to contend with large waves, ocean swells and ocean currents, Trinidad and Tobago offers a choice of sheltered saltwater and freshwater kayaking opportunities. Two kayaking areas of particular note are Bon Accord Lagoon and the Godineau River.
The azure waters of Buccoo Bay and the Bon Accord Lagoon in Tobago are sheltered by the offshore Buccoo reef, providing a kayaking area with only gentle swells. Kayak rentals are available at the nearby Storebay and also at Pigeon Point. The fringing Mangrove swamps of the Bon Accord Lagoon provide a scenic contrast to the white sand beaches along Pigeon Point and at the center of Buccoo bay. The offshoots of the reef also shelter the adjacent Milford Bay, allowing one to kayak to the south-east from Bon Accord Lagoon around Pigeon Point and into Milford Bay or vice-versa.
The Godineau River in south Trinidad, also known as the South Oropouche River, is one of the rivers in Trinidad that provides a year round kayaking opportunity as the water level is always sufficient. Kayaking in the Godineau area takes you through a variety of habitats, from saltwater mangrove swamp to fresh water marshland to partially cultivated areas. A variety of birdlife can be seen on these kayak trips including Scarlet Ibis, Southern Lapwing, Osprey, Savannah Hawk, Wattled Jacana, Cattle Egret, Yellow-hooded Blackbird, Lesser Yellowlegs, Black-bellied Whistling Duck and a variety of migrating ducks (during the northern winter). This kayak trip can be started either from the sea along the area known as the Mosquito Creek or inland from the Woodland area.
Trinidad’s network of old agricultural & oilfield roads plus (relatively) quiet country roads, along with hiking paths provide a range of surfaces and environments for cycling. In addition terrain ranges from flat land to rolling inclines to hillsides. For those with a preference for road biking almost every area of Trinidad has country roads with reduced vehicle traffic. The cross-country rider will be able to find undulating land with natural vistas. Those whose interest lies in mountain biking can find forest trails with logs, bamboo and streams across the trail requiring navigation and dexterity.
So the next time you are looking for outdoor recreational activity with a difference, experience Trinidad and Tobago, islands of Adventure.
